Dear M, please do not read this post

My sis-in-law is keen on birds. For me, they are typically a bit too twee. However, I came across a couple million cool things while researching for a project. Thought I'd share.

Okay, I do like crows.

And I like mercury glass.

These birds are from a website BirdsforBulbs.com which used to be running a cool deal where if you switched to a more enviromentally friendly lightbulb, let the artist know, she would draw you your very own bird. Right now, there is a moritorium on birds though. Keep checking the site to see if they start up again. Nothing beats custom art for the price of a lightbulb.

These are really cool too. This is bascially 3-D line art. The artists even signs her name with the wire in the piece.

Cramming it all in

Poetic Home: Great blog about living very classy and vintage. Don't know why I love it but I do.
Too funny. The eyes are seeds. Just plant these cuties upside down in the dirt, their little feet sticking up, for a little pumpkin, melon, or tomato.
The other day, Kira hosted a Baby Shower and had these classy square white plates. But when we picked them up, they turned out to be paper. This is the reverse of that concept. I like how they come pre-bent -- just like the paper plates in my disposables box.
This looks like a good idea, but I'm not certain how practical it is. How hard is it to scoop a little mashed mango out of the jar?
Too cute.

Ella Style: a fun little inexpensive shop.
So pretty. It's soap. What lucky guests I will have!
I love the look of these. And I think I could make them myself. Bonus.
I love the MOMA store. And I love this piggy pot lid. Perfect for covering dishes in the microwave.

How much fun is dinner with Sandbox Salt and Pepper Cellars?

Salad tongs, potted plant.

Hats, part 2

So, we have 3 weeks of school left, and by a bit of pure chance, we had a week of sunshine. This caused Livia's teachers to mention emphatically that the children need sunhats, specifically navy blue or the official school hat with the school seal on it, which I'm certain costs more money than I'm willing to part with for only 3 weeks of wear. Already, I shelled out for Lena to buy a new summer uniform (one term a year they change uniforms), so we had a spare, and I determined to recycle it into a hat. I managed to squeeze two hats out of the one small uniform by using the button-down bodice as a feature on the band.

The girls think that they look very cool in them and wear them even when they are out of uniform.

Cuppies

So, I'm about to make Bakerella's little cake bites for a Baby Shower, and it got me thinking about cupcakes. Back in DC, I will have access to a lovely little shop called Couture Cupcakes, and I just thought I'd show off these lovelies. Have a read through the selection -- they all sound wonderful. Which sounds the best to you?
